Over five decades of friendship later, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai have formed the ultimate band to showcase their internationally renowned musicality. With sold-out shows across Europe, Satriani once again invites everybody to join them as they exhibit their incomparable skills on their tour, Surfing With The Hydra! The best-selling instrumental rock guitarist of all time shares, “The SATCHVAI Band rides again! After a fantastic European tour last summer Steve, Kenny, Marco, Pete and I will bring the Surfing With The Hydra Tour to the US. We can’t wait to play you the new material from our forthcoming SatchVai album along with your favorite songs from our shared catalog. And that’s not all, we’re bringing along the incomparable Animals As Leaders. You do not want to miss this show with this lineup!” Steve Vai, who has been immortalized for creating the richest and best hard rock guitar-virtuoso album of the '80s, also expresses his enthusiasm to go on tour again, saying, “Being in the same band with Joe, playing songs we actually wrote together on stage, in real time felt like watching a childhood fantasy step out of my teenage brain and stroll onto the stage. And somehow, it was even more rewarding, satisfying, and downright fulfilling than I ever thought possible.” Now, the fantasy lives on in New York when they play at the Beacon Theatre on Thursday, 28th May 2026!
Joe Satriani’s passion for the guitar has molded him into becoming the mentor of other legendary guitar players like his bandmate Steve Vai, Alex Skolnick of Testament, Geoff Tyson of T-Ride, and Kirk Hammett of Metallica. Since then, he has become the world's most commercially successful solo guitar performer and has sold over 10 million albums all over the world. The rise of his career is often traced to the time when he toured with Rolling Stone’s lead singer Mick Jagger. Satriani has successfully built a name for himself, earning millions of fans with his 18 studio albums, three EPs, five live albums, and four compilation albums. Like his student Steve Vai, he has been nominated for 15 Grammy Awards. Vai has won three of his nominations and has sold over 15 million records. He started his career playing with music icon Frank Zappa and has been recognized as the 10th Greatest Guitarist by Guitar World. His undeniable soulful artistry has allowed him to create 11 studio albums, two EPs, eight live albums, 12 soundtracks, 20 compilation albums, two special albums, and seven videos. He is a visionary composer and producer, and the TEC Foundation describes him as, “While many artists fit easily into a single category, Steve Vai remains unclassifiable. He is a musical alchemist of the highest order.” While Satriani and Vai’s mentorship has resulted in very fruitful careers, they know that forming a band will allow them to create more music and meet more fans. Today, their SatchVai Band is joined by drummer Kenny Aronoff, bassist Marco Mendoza, and guitarist Pete Thorn.
From Washington, instrumental progressive metal band Animals As Leaders will be joining the show in New York as the official supporting act of this tour. Created in 2007 as a solo project of guitarist Tosin Abasi, it now features Javier Reyes on rhythm guitar and Matt Garstka on drums. With songs from their four studio albums, they are ready to set the stage for the SatchVai Band on this upcoming tour, with Abasi saying, “We are beyond honored to be joining Joe Satriani and Steve Vai on tour! Our band, in many ways, would not be what it was if not for the impact of these two icons. Getting a chance to hit the US with them is a bucket list experience for us. Can’t want to see you all soon!”
