British American comedian John Oliver began performing stand up in 2001. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe began having a late night segment called The Comedy Zone. Oliver performed as the oleaginous journalist. Oliver began working for BBC radio programme The Department, where he hosted and wrote the script. Oliver began working at The Daily Show with Jon Stewart in 2006. He eventually won three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series in 2009, 2011, and 2012. In 2014, Oliver launched his own series Last Night with John Oliver. The show moved on to winning 26 Primetime Emmy Awards. Oliver has also won Critic’s Choice Awards, a Grammy Award, GLAAD Media Awards, and Writers Guild of America Awards. John Oliver’s comedic commentary on current events have been credited for influencing US court rulings and legislations. Although he doesn’t consider himself a journalist, John Oliver has the same influence, even more.
ABOUT SETH MEYERS
In 2001, Seth Meyers began writing for Saturday Night Live. He eventually became co-anchor of the Weekend Update. In SNL, Meyers impersonated a ton of celebrities and famous figures, including politicians. His performances have made him a fan favorite. Some of his most iconic skits include the script he wrote for Tina Fey’s return when she impersonated Sarah Palin. In 2013, Meyers replaced Jimmy Falon in his Late Night show, which in turn was named Late Night with Seth Meyers. Meyers has won a ton of prestigious accolades with his work, including a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics, Critic’s Choice Television Awards for Best Talk Show, and several Writer’s Guild of America Awards for Comedy/Variety (including talk) Series.
